Do yourself a favor, see Phish this summer.

Although I am advising all to see Phish this summer, I am not going to Superball [Phish Festival at Watkins Glen]. Sigh. But I did see them at Darien Center 6/8. Although the crowd and well that venue were not favorite, there is no doubt that Phish is tighter than they have been in a long time recently. I cannot even explain it. Although there were other highlights like Limb by Limb, Harry Hood, Lifeboy, 2001, and an incredible Wolfman's Brother and 46 Days, the song "Theme from the Bottom" really stuck out for me that show. Mike and I ran to grab more water at some point and were about to sit on the lawn for a song and find some Javatars, when you hear those first six notes on the piano. Mike and I looked at each other like... nevermind... and sprinted back to the pavilion.
The song is refreshing and came together as the day slowly was coming a close. The song honestly reminds me of friends that come and go in your life and the necessary crossroads that you approach as you wander.
It is off one of the first Phish albums I ever heard, Billy Breathes. This is a great album to listen to at night doing something productive or on a long car ride.

I feed from the bottom, you feed from the top
I live upon morsels you happen to drop
And coffee that somehow leaks out of your cup
If nothing comes down then I'm forced to swim up
On the way upwards, the colors come back
But all along the bottom is blue, grey, and black
The darkness is cold and perception goes wrong
And the night seems to go on incredibly long
So I ask you why if I'm swimming by,
Don't you see anything you'd like to try?
Pantomime mixtures of heaven and earth
Jumbled events that have less than no worth
Time in the forest to dig under rocks

Or float in the ocean asleep in a box
Or sink just below all the churning and froth
And swim to the light source or fly like a moth
So toss away stuff you don't need in the end
But keep what's important and know who's your friend
So I ask you why if I'm swimming by,
Don't you see anything that you'd like to try?
If I'm swimming by
From the bottom, from the top
